Below are some of our most Frequently Asked
Questions:
Do you ship internationally?
No, due to restrictions on the
importation of animals and plants in many countries, we only
ship within the continental US.
Can the shipment be held at a FedEx
location?
Yes, please provide the address and
zip code of the FedEx location and the package can be held
there.
Why is shipping so expensive?
We do our best to control the cost
of shipping, but it is expensive and necessary to ship live
animals via overnight service. The further the customer lives
from Charlotte, NC the more it costs to ship. Other factors
built into the cost are the expense of the insulated Styrofoam
container, bags, heat packs and transportation to the FedEx drop
off location.
You will be charged for priority overnight
shipping cost plus a $8.00 box charge. This charge
includes heat/cool packs. North Carolina residents will be charged
7% sales tax on their
order.
Can you bill my FedEx account for
the shipping expense?
Yes, please provide your account
number in the comment section on the online order form. There
will be a $8.00 box charge and we will adjust the total prior to
charging your credit card.
Do you only use FedEx?
Yes, we only use FedEx. Based on our
experience with other overnight delivery services, FedEx is the
most reliable.
Do you ship for Saturday Delivery?
Yes, FedEx charges an extra $12.50
charge for the service.
Can my package be sent via FedEx
Ground to save money on shipping?
No, due to time constraints, we are
only able to ship in the evenings and drop the packages off
around 5:00 - 6:00 PM at FedEx. FedEx Ground does not pick these
packages up until the next morning. Consequently, it takes a day
and a half at minimum for the corals to be delivered. The corals
do best with almost no DOAs when the corals are received and
acclimated within 12-18 hours from when they are shipped.
Are my lights adequate for
these corals?
We use 250 watt 14k Hamilton
ReefStar's at Coral Dynamics and
have had success with VHO's in the past. We can not
offer an opinion on other types of lighting such as T-5 since we have never used them. They may be fine;
we just have never used them. Most corals are photosynthetic and
require strong lighting to survive. As a rule of thumb, we
recommend a minimum of 4 watts per gallon (total wattage of
lights divided by gallons of tank) for Soft and LPS corals
and 6 watts or more for xenia, Clams and SPS corals.
What are your water parameters?
|
Salinity: 1.024 |
pH: 8.0 |
|
Nitrates: >10 ppl |
Nitrites: 0 |
|
Ammonia: 0 |
Temp: 78-80 |
What type of current should these
corals have?
Soft corals require slow to moderate
current, SPS corals prefer moderate to fast current.
When will my package arrive?
Most days we are able to get
shipments out the same day if the order is placed prior to 4:00
PM Eastern Standard Time. Please specify the day you would like
it to arrive when completing your online order or via email.
